William H. Clark II does not review films so much as indict them. Shoot The Blonde is a fever chart of contemporary American resentment — each entry less a critique of cinematography than a dispatch from the culture wars, filed with Old Testament fury. Clark surveys Hollywood’s output and finds, predictably, evidence of civilization’s collapse: feminized men, eroded values, a liberal machine grinding tradition to dust. The films themselves — 300, The Fountain, Conspiracy Theory — are merely props. What Clark is really screening is his own fear. As cultural documents go, this one is bracingly, uncomfortably honest about its own rage.
